The book contains the three stories The Expelled, The Calmative and The End.

The size is 11 x 7,5 inch, it has 64 pages, 18 monochrome illustrations and a hardcover with a font embossing on the front and the spine. The book cover is a black packaging paper coated with paraffin wax.

Beckett has predefined the order of the stories. The german translations were published by the Suhrkamp-Verlag (Frankfurt/Main) in 1962. Elmar Tophoven translated them from French into German.
